Garry Haehnle has nearly two decades of experience working in the criminal justice system. He began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney in the San Diego District Attorney's Office in 1990 and distinguished himself as a successful prosecutor who completed more than 80 felony jury trials and 30 misdemeanor jury trials. During his time as a prosecutor he served as the Supervising Deputy DA in the Child Abduction Unit. He was a specially appointed Deputy Attorney General and was also assigned to the United States Attorney's Office and appointed as a Special U.S. Attorney in the Asset Forfeiture Division, where he handled cases involved seized property used for drug trafficking. Garry has received many awards for his work protecting our families and children. He was named the 1995 Prosecutor of the Year by the Southern California Juvenile Officers Association. He has been recognized by the San Diego Police Department for prosecuting sexual predators in Balboa Park; the San Diego Sheriff's Department for "Dedicated Service" in prosecuting child abusers; and the San Diego Child Abuse Investigator's Association for "Oustanding Efforts in the Prosecution of Child Abusers." Garry is also a recipient of the San Diego Crime Commission's Special Recognition Award and the California Family Support Council's 2000 Director's Award for "Valuable Contribution to Child Abduction." Garry designed, implemented and taught a course on child abduction to police cadets at the San Diego Law Enforcement Academy. When he isn't busy in the court room, Garry is active in the San Diego community. He organized a "National Missing Children's Day" for San Diego County and chaired the "Never Shake a Baby" Committee. He was an advisor to the Southern California CARES program administered by the YMCA Youth and Family Services project to prevent child abduction. Garry was also a lecturer at the USD School of Law and the SDSU Criminal Justice Program. Garry is currently a Member of the Board of Directors for San Diego Youth and Community Services. He has judged moot court competitions on the national and local levels for UCLA, University of San Diego, Thomas Jefferson School of Law and California Western School of Law. He judged the local high school moot court competition put on by the San Diego County Bar Association, Constitutional Rights Foundation, San Diego County Department of Education, and the San Diego Superior Court. Garry also participated in the San Diego County Bar Association's High School outreach programs. An avid dog lover, Garry enjoys spending time with his four dogs.
