I love politics. I think I was born at a political event. Actually, I almost was! My parents were Republican activists in the 1960's and in the Fall of 1964, my mom tells me she was so pregnant with me that she could hardly walk, but she was out there campaigning! Luckily, I was born in mid-October, so by the November election, she was back on her feet, getting out the vote. I've been active in Republican politics ever since! In 1987, I moved to Sacramento to go to McGeorge and immediately got involved locally. Names like David Knowles, Larry Bowler and Barbara Alby bring back fond memories. The campaign to save Rancho Seco really got me energized -- and deflated when we lost that one. But I was undeterred and kept plugging away for different local Republicans. I particularly enjoy working on local campaigns because I know my efforts can make a difference. In addition to walking hundreds of miles of precincts, posting countless campaign signs and registering scores of new Republicans, I've worn out my dialing finger (remember those old rotary phones?) calling voters to get them out to the polls on election day. For a precinct worker, there's nothing more satisfying than convincing someone to register Republican or vote for your candidate. I've also spent a significant part of my professional life in politics: I worked as a Legislative Consultant in the State Senate for 10 years and for Governor Schwarzenegger for three years as Legislative Director of his Office of Planning and Research. I currently work for a former legislator, Bill Leonard, at the State Board of Equalization, where I focus on assisting taxpayers with their cases before the Board. I've been on the Sacramento County Republican Central Committee since 1994 and have loved every bit of it. It's given me an opportunity to get to know more Republican activists and to get out and push Republican values in my community. |
