Personal Values, Equity, Fairness & Decisiveness on the BenchDear Potential Supporter,
The following is a summation of my fundamental beliefs as they relate to my candidacy for the Superior Court bench, Office #4:
HONOR. INTEGRITY. DEDICATION. COMMITMENT. FAMILY. LOYALTY & FAIRNESS. These are my core values - this is who I am and what I will bring to the bench as a Judge. Nearly thirty years ago I began law school with the goal of making a difference. I maintain that goal today with each case I touch. I now seek the opportunity to continue my mission as a Judge. I have always believed honor and integrity are the cornerstone of the judicial system. I ask for the opportunity to uphold those standards as a member of the bench. The Honorable Judge Richard Behn retired from the Orange County Superior Court in March 2008 and asked that I consider running for his seat. He has endorsed me to fill his post. If given the opportunity, I commit to fill his position with the integrity with which he served his tenure.
Over the span of my legal career, I have learned that the most important aspect of the judicial system is fairness, the opportunity to be heard, respect and courtesy. This applies to every person who walks through the door of a courtroom - from the jurors to the defendant or litigants, to the attorneys. I understand the courtroom is often a new and frightening place. I understand people have many questions. One of my goals as a judge would be to do all I can to ensure that when any person leaves the doors of my courtroom, he or she opines the judicial system is one of integrity and fairness and that though everyone may not like the outcome of any given case, he/she feels the trial was fair and that each person was treated with respect.
Broad life and career experiences coupled with years of dedication to serving and ensuring public welfare and safety have given me a strong foundation to serve as a judge. Along with my legal career, I have and continue to serve in the United States Army. This service has taken me around the globe where I have taught and learned much about foreign cultures, people, democracy and justice. I am a veteran of the Iraq war and the war in Bosnia. I have been on numerous operations to train and assist allies in addressing terrorism, conflict, natural disaster, and the plights of poverty and intolerance. These experiences have shaped me as a man, as a citizen and as an attorney and have reinforced my love and appreciation of our country and my commitment to serving the public and always striving to make a difference. As a prosecutor and soldier, I have committed my life to serve our community and country by trying to make it a better and safer place to live.
I have, for 26 years, had the opportunity to strive to make a difference as an attorney. My mission now is to continue to do so as a judge. I ask you to give me that opportunity where my core values HONOR, INTEGRITY, DEDICATION, COMMITMENT, FAMILY, LOYALTY, FAIRNESS will follow me to the bench and will continue as the base to each case in my courtroom. Please cast your vote June 3, 2008 and assist me in my mission.
Thank you!
