What It Like to Be a Central Committee Member?By Richard Schwartz, PECandidate for Member, Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of Los Angeles; Assembly District 51 | |

It's Good to ParticipateI have served for the last two years as an alternate for Dan Medina, and I go to most of the Los Angeles County Central Committee meetings. When Dan can not be there, I vote in his place. From time to time, I help out in the County Central Committee office on Wilshire Blvd. I am a club delegate to California Democratic Council, and an appointed member of the California Democratic Party central committee. The most interesting thing about the this work is that we Democrats, though a very diverse bunch from all corners of the earth and all corners of society, are 99.9% in agreement with each other! Amazing! When we do disagree, it is settled without hard feelings, because that is how democracy is supposed to work. I like to hear and weigh all different viewpoints. If you ever disagree with me, come and argue! I'll hear you out, and you might even change my mind on something. I do not consider "flip-flop" a political fault; rather, it is the mark of someone with an receptive mind instead of the stone wall that some present to alternate ideas. Central Committee meetings are open to the public, and I would urge any who are interested to join us. It is always the second Tuesday of the month on the second floor of the UTLA building on Wilshire Blvd. Come and see for yourself how it works. If you are like me, it will make you feel good to be around people who care enough to extend themselves trying to make the world a better place. At a more local level, I would invite anyone who is interested to visit us our Gardena Valley Democratic Club breakfast: Every Sunday at 10:00 at the Normandie Casino (ignore the gambling, and go to the restaurant in the back). We have plenty of good fellowship and some serious talk on issues. WARNING: If you come to the breakfast meeting, we may try to recruit you into the club. If you are registered to another party, that is OK. We are there to exchange ideas... even bad ones! |
