KEEP PUBLIC SAFETY AS PRIORITY #1.
Torrance is one of the safest cities in America. Cliff was elected class speaker in the city's Partners in Policing Program, supports the Torrance Ranger program, and wants to ensure that public safety is priority #1. He supports recruiting and retaining experienced, community-based police and fire professionals by encouraging them to own Torrance homes through the pursuit of investment partnerships to make homes affordable.
FIGHT TRAFFIC CONGESTION AND OVER-DEVELOPMENT.
Quality of life is a critical issue for Torrance residents. Traffic saps resources and energy. Over-development overly burdens city services. Cliff supports taking responsibility for Hawthorne and PCH to better synchronize lights, seeking federal funding for a traffic management center using new technology and ensuring that Torrance maintains its balanced commercial, industrial and residential character. He also supports revamping Torrance Transit, optimizing routes and equipment, to better serve residents.
ATTRACT AND RETAIN BUSINESSES AND CREATE GOOD LOCAL JOBS.
Actively market Torrance as a high-tech industrial and commercial center to strengthen the city's tax base and provide quality jobs. Cliff will use his experience at the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation to ensure that the city remains business-friendly. Cliff would actively visit local businesses and push for a one-stop permit processing center.
SUPPORT SERVICES TO SENIORS AND OUR SCHOOLS.
As the son of teachers and the brother of two educators, Cliff knows how critical schools are to our city. He understands that quality schools enhance home prices and improve the character of our community. As a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission, Cliff supported the use of city facilities for kids and was a critical voice in ensuring schools received priority in using the Plunge.
And with nearly 15% of Torrance residents over 65, ensuring quality senior services is critical for the city's success. As a Red Cross leader, Cliff is particularly concerned about emergency preparedness for seniors.
PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVE ENERGY.
Cliff received a Master of Science in Energy & the Environment when he studied at England's University of Sussex School of Engineering as a Rotary Ambassador of Goodwill/Preserve Planet Earth Scholar. Cliff was one of the first staff members in the State Legislature to work on the bill to give alternative fuel vehicles access to the carpool lanes. Cliff will fight pollution run-off at beaches, expand the green waste program city-wide, broaden green spaces through reclamation and conduct annual energy audits.
MAKE GOVERNMENT MORE ACCESSIBLE - TORRANCE 2.0.
Torrance has excellent city services, and Cliff supports initiatives to ensure that Torrance residents can quickly and easily provide feedback on issues facing the city. Cliff will initiate Torrance 2.0 - using email marketing to alert you of what the government is considering before the council and commissions meet. He also advocates conducting regular surveys of city services. Cliff has used email to enhance services; when he started at the Red Cross in Southern California, the organization had 0 email addresses. Now, there are 200,000 email addresses - and with this tool, the Red Cross collected record levels of blood this past holiday season, when supplies usually plummet.
