Living the American DreamBy Micheál "Mehaul" O'LearyCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Culver City | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Looking at 18% unemployment in Ireland while studying at University College, Dublin, Micheal came to the United States when he was 23 years old with $700 in his pocket. He found promising work in the restaurant industry in New York, Vermont and Massachusetts before coming to California where he managed restaurants in San Diego, Laguna Beach, Fountain Valley, Laguna Niguel and Brentwood. Eight years ago, Micheal had the opportunity to buy a Culver City pub and Joxer Daly's was born. He credits his success as a small business owner to sound management and the city's support. Now he wants to put his skills to work on City Council. Micheal comes from a family of public servants and has just completed his Public Service Ethics Education Certification. His mother has always been active in charitable organizations, his father is a retired police commissioner in Ireland and his grandfather served as director of elections in County Tipperary. Micheal is continuing a family tradition of giving back; and he understands the importance of putting families first and bringing them together to make a stronger, more prosperous community. |
