QUALITY OF LIFE ISSUESBy Randy Scott LeslieCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Culver City | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
TAKING CARE OF PEOPLE FIRST. My mission is to protect and serve the public, environment, and economic interests of Culver City.READY TO LEAD There are many pressing issues facing our city. All equally important. All impacting quality of life. My mission is to protect and serve the public, environment, and economic interests of Culver City. I will always consider what is best for the community, families first, especially women and children. I am dedicated to lending a voice for those in need and who are unable to speak for themselves. Please review my positions below and on my website http://www.CulverCityElection.com TIME FOR CHANGE My priorities:
I promise I will take action on important issues:
We all want a beautiful place to live; a cleaner, greener community with good jobs, great schools, comfortable housing, safe streets, fresh air, and clean water that enable us to lead healthy happy lives. I believe art, culture, education and employment opportunities, as well as strong childcare and senior programs are hallmarks of a successful vibrant community. As a future father, I am passionate about improving our quality of life and making smart fiscal decisions. I am committed to using my 26 years United States Coast Guard Aeronautical Engineering Chief, environmental, law enforcement, rescue and leadership experience to improve public healthcare, safety, and promote economic growth. I will use my critical thinking skills to find viable solutions to problems. I will promote a spirit of openness and responsiveness in our government. I will place a strong emphasis on public participation, creative and collaborative problem-solving that efficiently and effectively use our taxpayer dollars. MANAGE DEVELOPMENT Let's manage our growth to ensure livable community neighborhoods and minimize traffic congestion. I will fight to guarantee good judgement and responsible use of our existing municipal land, and to eliminate the use of Eminent Domain for private purposes, for profit, or for any other purposes other than absolute public necessity. SMART EXPANSION I will provide oversight and ensure the communities voice is heard regarding the following projects:
EDUCATION City Council has an obligation to work in close partnership with the dedicated education community to increase the opportunities for every citizen. Excellent schools benefit the entire community, young and old. I would support a Youth Council that would enable children in our schools to experience and learn about our local government. Our children's future depends upon cooperation and innovative vision. PUBLIC SAFETY A strong police, fire and paramedic department are keystones of a vibrant community. A safe environment will enhance quality of life. We need to ensure our Public Safety Departments have the correct funding and manpower. There are many challenges to provide the quality of service that we expect and receive from these hard working departments. I stand ready to work side by side and support these brave men and women with a clear understanding of their missions. I am ready to take action to ensure we remain prepared for the the future while also keeping our current level of service superior. PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION I would like to explore the option of a MONTH LONG FREE-RIDE PROGRAM for our public bus system that would help change ridership patterns. A starting point would be to offer the free-ride month possibly with a prepaid card sent out to residents to notify them of its availability. At the very least, I believe we could offer a month free-ride program to seniors possibly via vouchers or reduce the senior citizen fares. |
