KEEP IT BASICBy Steve PavelishCandidate for Council Member; City of Cincinnati | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
We need to keep it BASIC in solving our City problems. As we enter the sometimes confusing political season you will hear many proposals and ideas from the various candidates running for Cincinnati City Council and you will also hear my thoughts. Many candidates will bombard you with new reforms and comprehensive plans. Some candidates will attempt to impress you with their extensive political and policy making backgrounds. And some candidates will boast about their current careers. My belief is that Cincinnati is a great, major American city. My belief is that the people of Cincinnati are good, decent people who want the best for themselves and their families. And my belief is that the elected officials are obligated to serve Cincinnati and the people of Cincinnati as a top priorty and not treat Cincinnati City Council as a part time, second job. And getting back to the BASICS will return us to the quality of life that we seek.We don't need to "reinvent the wheel" with new reforms and massive government programs. And here are the BASICS: (1) We need a police force, not hampered by restrictive federal mandates created in 2002, that can operate the way it once did when it was known as the finest force in the nation. This measure will add to the first step in safer neighborhoods. (2) Cincinnati government must welcome back (with new PRO BUSINESS REFORMS) the small to medium investors (our financial backbone) who fled the City for Northern Kentucky and the suburbs. This will not only address our housing problems but will create new jobs and increase population and tax base. (3) City Council must again partner with Cincinnati Public Schools with meeting participation and smart funding. |
