David Crowley has had a successful career managing agencies and programs providing social services, community action and capacity building in both domestic and international settings. Crowley is a native Cincinnatian growing-up on Mt. Adams with seven siblings. He graduated from Purcell (Purcell/Marian) High School then entered the US Navy where he served two years on the cruiser the USS Northampton. He received a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Master Degree in Social Work from Ohio State University. He also holds a Master Degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. He began his professional social work career as a children's services caseworker in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. He served as Executive Director of Santa Maria Community Services. He was chosen as the first Executive Director of the Ohio Commission on Aging and Special Advisor on Aging to then Governor John J. Gilligan. He was selected as Executive Vice President of the American Association of Homes for the Aging, a national association representing non-profit services for aging where he served in Washington DC from 1975 to 1982. In 1983 Crowley joined the US Peace Corps as a Deputy Country Director in the Eastern Caribbean, Jamaica and Cameroon. Following his Peace Corps experience he directed international relief and development projects in West Africa, Central and South America, Nepal, Thailand, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo. Crowley returned to Cincinnati in 1995 to manage the family business on Mt. Adams. He ran for office and was elected Cincinnati City Council on his first attempt in November, 2001 and has been re-elected twice since. On City Council Crowley chairs the Internal Audit Committee and serves as a member of the Finance, Economic Development, Vibrant Neighborhoods, Health and Education, and Governmental Operations Committees. Crowley has been involved in many civic and professional organizations and has served numerous charitable endeavors locally and nationally Crowley is the father of four children and with his wife, Sherri, the grandparents of six grandchildren. He and Sherri live in Walnut Hills. |
