Political Philosophy for John Hoffmann
Candidate for |
Government exists to provide protection, infrastructure and services to its citizens as efficiently as possible. By design it is for the benefit of all citizens but entrenched attitudes can make it very difficult to work through the system. Too often elected officials rubber stamp staff recommendations as the "preferred alternative" rather than making a critical analysis and independent assessment. The longer officials are in office the more likely it is that they will lose independent perspective and become part of the system. That is why I have pledged to serve only one term and to sponsor a two term limit. I will also sponsor a 100% increase in the time allowed for public comment; twenty minutes to hear the public we serve is not to much to ask. There is no shortage of citizens willing and capable of leading the city and no shortage of bright minds with fresh ideas. We need to constantly refresh the City Council with such people because both the city and citizens benefit. |
