We must begin to listen to our business community. They are the backbone of our city. They supply most to the tax revenue that in turn allows the City to supply to high quality of support services our citizens have come to expect.
The current city council seems more involved in pet projects than it does in listening to the business community. We cannot sit ideally by and watch other cities around us gain new businesses. In an effort to keep a small town feel, the council has failed to realize that Burlingame is more cosmopolitan than small town. We must develop new business within our core downtown by developing the Howard Avenue area. This should include mixed-use development in an effort to infuse our downtown. In that way we gain new business rental property, new residents, and a more vibrant shopping and pedestrian experience. Business is the key to our long-term success.
