Water Conservation

By Betty A. Anderson

Candidate for Director; Jurupa Community Services District; Division 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Due to the current drought, my highest priority is ensuring the availability and quality of water for our population, and promoting sustainability through resource and energy conservation. Together we can conserve our most precious resource, water, while using it responsibly.
The greatest challenge faced by our water community is preserving water resources for availability, and at a reasonable cost. Every time the District over-extends its ability to supply water the cost of water dramatically increases since it has to be specially processed or obtained from outside sources. Not only the drought but the indiscriminate approval of water availability requests threatens the District's ability to ensure the availability of water at reasonable rates.

The JCSD board must stop the wholesale approval of every water availability request that is submitted. These requests need to be closely scrutinized to ensure that the water needs of our community are maintained.

New water resources, better water storage methods, and water recycling programs need to be developed. This may involve grey water implementation and asking the community to participate in water conservation.

Long range planning has to be established. Future water needs and ways to meet those needs has to be addressed. Planning scenarios for a variety of different conditions require consideration. These situations include extended draughts and probable emergencies.
