Major Independent Endorsements: Garry has been endorsed by the Marin Independent Journal and the Pacific Sun, the only independent organizations making endorsements in this election (To avoid any potential conflict of interest during his service on the Council, Garry did not seek endorsements or donations from any special interest groups.). The Pacific Sun said: "Garry Lion has valuable experience on the council and demonstrated the ability to balance business and housing needs with environmental protection. He's clearly smart and skilled at weighing the needs of a variety of community interests. We believe he is committed to preserving Mill Valley's small-town character...The Sun endorses Garry Lion...." The Marin IJ said: "Voters should elect...Lion...offer(ing)Mill Valley the best chance of making progress in a variety of areas, including healing the wounds opened by Miller Avenue...Lion's involvement with the local business community (he is chairman-elect of the Chamber of Commerce board) will be important when figuring out what to do with Miller Avenue. His concerns include the relaxing of zoning on parking and setbacks. Lion's experience on the City Council also is a plus during this period of change at City Hall..." Co-Chairs: Testimonials
"Garry has superb analytical and critical skills, which is desperately needed in this era of political correctness. He will ask the tough questions and assertively seek out answers that have long-term and lasting benefits. He's bright, practical with a vision to the future."
"Garry brought a keen intellect, a passion for public service, financial creatively, fairness, excellent listening skills, sensible priority setting and the ability to work effectively with council colleagues and city staff. Garry understands what makes Mill Valley special and provided strong and effective leadership."
"Mill Valley needs experienced leaders to guide the City through important decision making. Garry Lion has a highly regarded history of making informed decisions. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, he has established an outstanding record of working on behalf of the business community to maintain the city's economic vitality. I am very impressed by his concerned interest and ongoing involvement in the overview of important issues that impact that current and future well-being of Mill Valley. He would be a great asset to the City Council."
"Garry has proven he will work to keep Mill Valley's small town character. He delivered results as mayor, far beyond expectations; and now his written campaign positions will again protect Mill Valley. Everyone should be thrilled Garry is running for Council!"
"Garry's track record as an advocate for Mill Valley neighborhoods is unparalleled. He successfully spearheaded the Scott Valley Neighborhood Association's and Coalition of Mill Valley Neighborhoods' opposition to multiple, large development proposals in east Mill Valley, and tirelessly participated in the General Plan revision effort to cement the final results. As a member of the City Council, he used his expertise to protect Mill Valley's semi-rural environment and small town charm. He is smart, tough, experienced, and totally dedicated to preserving what we all love about Mill Valley."
"Garry was one of the best Councilmembers I served with: he was a determined protector of the neighborhoods and our open space, his keen and creative intellect helped resolve difficult issues, and he uncomplainingly took on more than his share of the thankless nuts-and-bolts work that the City needs from its leaders."
"The energy and intelligence that Garry has brought to keeping Artisans alive and prospering is amazing. He takes initiative and backs it up with follow through. It's been a privilege and an education to serve with him. We could not have saved Artisans without him."
Having known Garry for over thirty years, he is a devoted husband, extraordinary father, successful business professional, and selfless community citizen. During his first City Council tour in Mill valley, he helped pioneer the community Drug Abuse Prevention Councils that led to a coherent and thoughtful mobilization of prevention activities in the schools and throughout the community. Garry has been tireless, bringing his thoughtfulness, energy, and vision to the community's current challenges and future opportunities on behalf of Mill Valley."
"When Garry served on the City Council, he thoroughly understood the issues that came before the Council. While he was an advocate for controlling over-development on the prominent hillsides prior to running for the Council, he was not a one issue council member. He was a leader in the efforts to limit development on Horse Hill, which opened the door to its purchase. Mill Valley still faces many challenging issues that will require the kind of knowledge and experience that Garry will bring to the table." 13 Former Mayor Endorsers
