Riverside County, CA | June 5, 2007 Election |
Open GovernmentBy Mike GardnerCandidate for Council Member; City of Riverside; Ward 1 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Citizens have a right to comment on the City's business, and the Council has a duty to listen. The City Council routinely takes actions that commit hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of your dollars at every meeting. These actions should be open and subject to comment and question. I believe too many important items are buried in the consent calendar and consequently not subject to the level of public scrutiny they should be. Citizens should have the right to ask questions and state opinions on the City's business. I support returning the public's right to remove items from the consent calendar. I believe any expenditure of $1 million or more is automatically worthy of public discussion and will ask that all such expenditures be on the discussion calendar. |
