JUDGE WILLIS W. BERRY, Jr. for Supreme Court

Willis W. Berry, Jr., is just a regular guy much like yourself who has lived all over Philadelphia; West Philadelphia on Paxon St. near Haverford Ave., on 62nd near Larchwood Ave., 5300 Berks St., in South Philadelphia at 4th & Washington Ave. and 22nd & St. Alban's St., in North Philadelphia on 15th & Diamond Sts. and 16th & Girard Ave. and in Mt Airy at Mt. Airy and Stenton Aves. He graduated from West Philadelphia High School and soon after joined the U.S. Air Force where he served four years. After serving in the Air Force and receiving his Honorable Discharge he returned to high school to take coursed to prepare him for Penn State University. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Physics; worked at several jobs before obtaining a job with Carpenter Technology [CarTec.] in Reading, PA where he worked as a metallurgist for approximately two years. While at CarTec he attended Drexel University after work to study Solid State Physics. Then fate touched his life and he entered Temple University Law School where he graduated in 1976 with his Juris Doctor's Degree, soon after, passing both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars [at the same time] and within months, was admitted to practice in Federal Court, where he represented many poor clients. As an attorney, Berry worked with Cecil B. Moore, Esq. [Master Sgt. in the Marines], his mentor and friend, until his death then built and opened his own practice in a " so called" poor neighborhood in N. Philadelphia, representing some of the city's poorest people, making himself available to these people and others, day and night. Some of the jury cases he was assigned and participated in include the Federal Russian Mob [RICO] gasoline case, the Camp Hill to Graterford prison guard case and the Nicky Scarfo [RICO] case, as well as numerous murder trials etc. in the court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia - some cases lasting up to months. After litigating numerous jury trials in the Court of Common Pleas, Federal Court, and Municipal Court, for 20 years, he was elected as judge to the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia in 1995 and recently won retention for a second term in 2005.
