The Board of Education must improve communication by reaching out to the community in better ways so as to keep people informed and broaden the conversation about means and ends in the district. We must make sure we are including all stake-holders, particularly parents, in vital discussions so that the community can feel that there is some consensus as the Board makes decisions. While there seem to be established opportunities for communication, I do feel that the Board needs to do a better job of including all interested voices in determining the community's goals for the children and the schools. When the implementation of these goals requires change, particularly in the daily lives of students, administrators and the Board must more clearly communicate the why and wherefore of these changes from an educational standpoint. In this way, vital and necessary changes can be implemented with more community support. As expenses rise, I think this heightened need for communication and collaboration will become more vital.
