Why am I running and what qualifies me to be a school board trustee?

By Eva (Neubauer) Alligood

Candidate for Member, Board of Education; Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District

This information is provided by the candidate
I am running for the Hastings-on-Hudson school board because I think that my extensive involvement at Hillside Elementary and my position on the Village of Hastings Planning Board provide a helpful perspective on issues facing our school district.
I am running for the Hastings-on-Hudson school board because I think that my extensive involvement at Hillside Elementary and my position on the Village of Hastings Planning Board provide a helpful perspective on issues facing our school district. For the past two years, I have served as a parent member of the Hillside Building Leadership Team (BLT), which is a collaborative decision-making body comprised of administrators, faculty, staff, and parents. In this capacity, I have worked to ensure that parents have a voice in discussions about challenges facing our district. For two years, I have also been a parent member of the District's Committee on Special Education, and I have served on the Benefit and Auction Committee for the Hastings Education Foundation. Prior to that, for two years I was one of the primary organizers of KidSong, a music event for young children that also raised money for the Hastings Education Foundation.

I believe that my professional background in community planning is a strong asset for the role of school board trustee. Community planning is a discipline that involves all key stakeholders in the decision-making process. If elected to the Hastings school board, I will work to ensure that the administration, faculty, staff, parents and the broader community engage in productive discussions about the future of our district. By serving on both the Hastings Planning Board and the Hastings School Board, I hope to facilitate communication and cooperative planning on issues of mutual interest to the school district and the village. For example, I hope to address traffic and safety around our schools, and to ensure that any new development in our village does not create a negative impact on our schools.
