Candidate for
Board Member; Redondo Beach Unified School District

I have lived in Redondo Beach since 1979. I worked for many years as a systems analyst in the aerospace industry employed by Northrop, Rockwell, and TRW. I became a Realtor in 1994 and have been affiliated continuously with Shorewood Realtors since then. My wife Arda is also a Realtor and our profession has enabled us to know hundreds of Redondo Beach residents and their desires and hopes for this community.

I am the father of four children and have been deeply involved in their educational growth. All of my children attended Redondo schools and my youngest son currently is a sophomore at Redondo Union High School.

I decided to run for school board in late 2002 after observing that members of the board, who are elected by the community to act as overseers of the school district, had abdicated their responsibility and were acting as "rubber stamps" for the district's administrators. I won a seat in the election of 2003 and have worked hard to make the school board accessible to and representative of the public it serves. I insisted that phone numbers and email addresses of school board members be posted on the district's website to enable the public to contact us. I ask difficult questions and demand that the district's employees be accountable to the public.
