1. What are the three major issues you would address immediately if elected?*
|
Answer from Jeffrey D. "Jeff" Klein:
1) Education, health care and property taxes. State education funding and Medicaid need dramatic overhauls to reduce waste, improve results and alleviate the growing financial burden on local taxpayers.
Answer from Joseph J. "Jay" Savino:
1) Crime: Civil confinement for pedophiles and rapists; address quality of life issues. Taxes: Cap property taxes to keep seniors and families in Westchester. Education: Lift tax burden from Westchester homeowners.
2. What is your opinion regarding the formation of an independent redistricting commission?*
|
Answer from Jeffrey D. "Jeff" Klein:
2) I support an independent redistricting commission because legislative districts should be drawn based on geography and shared local interests, not rigged for partisan political purposes.
Answer from Joseph J. "Jay" Savino:
2) Would such a commission truly be independent when political parties are responsible for appointing its members? The very nature of this commission would politicize the redistricting process.
3. What makes you the best candidate for this office?*
|
Answer from Joseph J. "Jay" Savino:
3) A lifelong District resident and graduate of Westchester schools. I have advocated vigorously for children, families, elderly, needy and the business community as an attorney and public servant.
Answer from Jeffrey D. "Jeff" Klein:
3) I have a 12 year record of fighting for better schools, accessible health care, consumer protection and tougher criminal laws. I have proven I can get results for my constituents.
