1. Public education is financed through property taxes and state funds. What other means of raising revenue would you support?*
|
Answer from James D. Conte:
We must reduce the reliance of funding our school districts mainly through real property taxes. That is why I have fought hard to get Long Island schools their fair share of state aid to education dollars. I have a plan to RESTORE NEW YORK that provides for real property tax relief. It strengthens the STAR program, protects taxpayers from waste, fraud and abuse in Medicaid and creates an Office of School Inspector General to oversee school district spending practices.
2. Legislative districts have been determined on a partisan basis. Would you support establishing an independent commission as a more open and ethical way to create the districts? Please explain.*
|
Answer from James D. Conte:
I would fully support, co-sponsor and vote for any bill to provide for an independent commission to have open competitive legislative districts. We can establish districts that are continuous and have common boundaries.
