Public SafetyBy Jeremy RochaCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Turlock | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
To me public safety means keeping people safe. It is about providing the necessary levels of protection in order to insure that individuals are as safe as possible in their homes and in public. In other words, you should not have to be concerned about being robbed or your property being vandalized and you should aways feel secure when walking into a bank, store, or your workplace. Now I realize that it is impossible to be 100% safe because no one can predict the future, however, the key is to prevent as much crime as possible and to respond to crimes, fires and medical emergencies fast and efficiently. Providing public safety is the number 1 job of government and public safety is about public service. Serving the public in hopes that the community will improve and become an even better place to live. There are three things that need to be done to improve our public safety. 1. Get the public invested and involved in our community. This is done at the leadership level. It is necessary for the council to provide the leadership that makes individuals what to get involved and makes them know and feel that they are important. 2. Get people interested in public service. This is done at all levels of our city government. The council needs to show that Turlock is a great place to live and work and the police and fire departments need to show that although the jobs are difficult and dangerous they are also rewarding at many levels. 3. Make sure that the funding is there for these services. This is the responsibility of the council. It is necessary to make sure that the money is being spent right. This includes making sure the money is going to the right areas and once it is their making sure it is being used right. Government waste needs to be completely stopped. |
