Shall the Keyes Community Services District's service charge for street lighting be increased from $10 to $19 a year for each parcel of land within the District, effective January 1, 2007?
The Keyes Community Services District ("District") currently imposes a special tax of $10 per calendar year on each parcel of land within the District to pay for street lighting services. On July 25, 2006, the District Board of Directors enacted Resolution 427 which authorized a ballot measure where the District voters would decide whether the special street lighting tax would be increased. If two-thirds (2/3) of the votes cast are "YES" the following will occur: 1. For calendar years commencing January 1, 2007, the special tax will become $19 per calendar year for each parcel of land within the District, instead of $10. The proceeds of this tax will continue to be used only for street lighting services within the District. 2. The special tax will continue to be a lien upon the properties against which the special tax is assessed. 3. The District's appropriations limit will increase by the amount of the additional revenue generated by the special tax increase. A "YES" vote means that the special tax will increase by $9 a year. A "NO" vote means the special tax will remain at $10 a year.
