San Diego's defense and high-technology workers are uniquely qualified to provide services toward our nation's efforts against terrorism. Congressman Hunter is working to ensure these jobs remain in our area.

Working directly with organizations like the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce and the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce, Congressman Hunter has sponsored several seminars and small business conferences and workshops to teach local businesses how they can sign contracts with the federal government and provide new employment opportunities for local residents. Understanding that minority owned firms are the fastest growing sector of all new small businesses, Congressman Hunter helped create a professional mentoring program that paired San Diego's small minority-owned businesses with well-established defense contractors. As Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Hunter continues to build on San Diego's great relationship with the U.S. military by providing millions of dollars in funding for essential defense projects whose work is provided by local San Diego companies.

Congressman Hunter is also opening new areas of opportunity for San Diego by introducing legislation that will help establish San Diego's vacation cruise line industry and supporting efforts to attract new and innovative businesses to our area in the science and technology industries. Ensuring that our community has the job opportunities to match San Diego's potential remains a top priority for Congressman Hunter.
