Like you, I'm frustrated with the Bush administration's attacks on our environment, civil rights, children's health, and public education. I believe our state government is becoming our last line of defense.

That's why I'm running for Assembly -- to bring strong and effective leadership to Sacramento, and protect the Democratic values we hold dear.

I'm uniquely qualified to meet this challenge. I'm a Senior Attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), one of America's most respected environmental organizations.

I'm also an elected official, with over 11 years governing the Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD), where I've been a leading advocate for reducing Marin's reliance on diversions from the Russian River, and where I've built a record of fiscal and environmental accountability.

I've also fought race and gender discrimination as a civil rights attorney, and won landmark victories for women under Title IX.

In the Assembly, I'll fight to protect our environment, public health, and civil rights; to replace our failed healthcare system with a single-payer system that ensures universal coverage and reduces costs; to increase funding for our schools, ensure clean elections, and build a strong, sustainable economy.

I'm proud to be endorsed by 100% of the environmental groups to endorse in this race, including Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters, and Sonoma County Conservation Action.

I'm also proud that the California Nurses Association and leading health care reform advocates in the North Bay are supporting me, along with national progressive leaders like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and local groups like Progressive Democrats of Sonoma County.

Finally, as the father of two young children and the husband of a public school teacher, education is among my highest priorities. I'm proud that nationally-recognized education leaders, including a former Marin County Teacher of the Year, are supporting me.

I respectfully ask for your vote.
