Political Philosophy for Mary Hayashi

Dear Friends: Public service and advocacy are what my life has been all about. As the California director for the American Public Health Association, I worked on issues of access to health care and bioterrorism preparedness, and have worked closely with the State on issues of children's social services, women's health, and education. As a member of the California Board of Registered Nursing and as a Commissioner on the California Mental Health Oversight and Accountability Commission, I am building cooperation between the private sector and government on critical health care issues. Over the past 15 years, I have had the privilege of serving as a board member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition, Research!America, and Planned Parenthood Golden Gate. My husband Dennis and I live in Castro Valley, and are fortunate to have many opportunities to serve our local community. Dennis is a Board member of AC Transit and Spectrum Community Services, a meal program for low-income seniors in Alameda County. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors of Girls Inc. of Alameda County, and the Chabot College Foundation. I also served as the Alameda County Campaign Coordinator for Prop. 63, which created $700 million annually for mental health services. As a Democratic candidate for the California Assembly, I am committed to continuing my service to the public, and improving the lives of working families. As you can see from the endorsements I've listed on the website, I have won a diverse and wide spectrum of support, gaining the endorsement of a number of local unions, business and community leaders, as well as elected officials. I have been endorsed by the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation of Voters, California Nurses Association, Hayward Firefighters Local 1909, and the Central Labor Council of Alameda County. My campaign priorities include: HEALTH CARE > Providing affordable health care coverage to the uninsured and increasing access to quality services for all. EDUCATION > Improving California's economy by supporting the growth of a highly-skilled and well-educated workforce and investing in our most important educational resources -- teachers and our local community colleges. ENVIRONMENT > Protecting natural resources and open spaces, ensuring clean air and water, and advocating for smart growth. PUBLIC TRANSIT > Increasing the accessibility and usage of public transit and developing long-term solutions to promote ridership among future generations. PUBLIC SAFETY > Protecting Californians by investing in public safety through support for frontline emergency responders, providing critically-needed support for major equipment, communications, training, and personnel resources. Because the issues I want to address are very broad - better education, better public safety, and better health - and because the Legislature is a place to make broad changes, I am seeking the chance to apply my experiences as a member of the Assembly. For more information, and to give feedback on my campaign and what you would like to see your legislator focusing on in Sacramento, please contact me at mary@hayashi2006.com or 510.885.1970. Thank you. Mary Hayashi Democrat for Assembly |
