As a child, she and her family escaped a cruel communist regime in Romania. Through her struggles, she has developed strong belief that the government should be held accountable for its decisions while ensuring economic prosperity and quality of life.

Born in Romania during a brutal communist dictatorship, Roxana planned on escaping to America. Her dream came true when, as a child, she and her family received political asylum in the United States. By speaking out against the dictatorship, her family had become a target of the vicious regime.

Roxana's family began a new life in the United States with little more than the clothes on their backs. The communist regime had seized everything they owned, and starting a new life was very difficult. The kindness of strangers offered much-needed support: religious groups provided food, others donated clothes, and kind families opened their doors to provide temporary shelter.

Roxana's family worked tirelessly to build a better life. Witnessing the struggles of her mother and father as they provided for the family in a new country gave Roxana a lifelong respect for hard work, initiative, and maintaining a determined focus on important goals. She distinguished herself early in life in school, and earned a Master's Degree from the prestigious University of Chicago. She now teaches political science and American government at MiraCosta College.

Prior to her career in teaching, Roxana worked in Washington, D.C. and gained a considerable amount of experience in our political system and policy-making at the highest levels. Noteworthy highlights in her career include working at the White House, and holding a position with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and Workforce, where she dealt with education matters.

Currently Roxana resides in Encinitas with her husband, Dale, who recently returned from serving in Iraq. Dale has served more than 20 years in the Marine Corps working as both an Infantryman and a Judge Advocate (JAG lawyer). Roxana recognizes the importance of duty and service to country and community.

She knows the value of freedom, and the meaning of democracy. She is very proud to be an American.
