Byron De Lear / Bio

Byron De Lear is a committed civic activist, media journalist/independent producer and Green Party Congressional candidate in California's 28th District.

In January of 2006, after delivering the United States Green Party rebuttal to George Bush's State of the Union address De Lear's campaign received international notoriety and was covered by Corporate Social Responsibility Wire, ImpeachPAC and AfterDowningStreet.org.

Byron Walker De Lear was born in Mountain View, California in 1966. His father an opera singer and mother a concert pianist and music teacher, Byron attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Byron eventually moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. De Lear has produced, written and performed on many major record labels and has worked in television and film production for 20th Century Fox.

In 1994, Byron collaborated with educator T.H. Culhane in composing the "Eutopia Curriculum" for the Los Angeles Charter School District. This curriculum, based on an 'edu-tainment platform' -- explored aspects of civilization and it's lasting links to tribalism, including the teachings of various world peace leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lennon.

Following the events of 911, Mr. De Lear decidedly shifted his creative skills and talent towards addressing the global challenges our world is facing today.

Forwarding a progressive wrldview, he is the Director and co-founder of Global Peace Solution -- an NGO that is specifically concerned with fostering peace and reconciliation efforts in the Middle East.

Mr. De Lear was the producer and host of the internationally broadcast Global Peace Network (GPN), which went out on two satellites to North America, Middle East and Europe in addition to streaming on the internet. Broadcast on an Iranian network out of Southern California to an estimated weekly audience of 10-15 million (XTV + SOSIRAN), the Global Peace Network focused on providing guests and topics to help promote pluralism and freedom of speech to the oppressed peoples living under the theocratic Iranian regime.

GPN's first season had such notable guests as author and humanitarian Blase Bonpane, 2005 Nobel Peace Prize nominee and author Maryam Qudrat, celebrity activist Ed Asner, Air America Radio co-founder Sheldon Drobny, California Green Party representative Sara Amir and Ada Aharoni of IFLAC and Technion University/Haifa.

Byron has trained extensively in nonviolence with civil rights leader Rev. James Lawson and conflict resolution with nonviolent communication expert Marshall Rosenberg. Joining the United States Green Party (GPUS) in 2004 he has become a Los Angeles Delegate to the California State Green Party, been active with United States Green Party Peace Committee (PAX) in addition to the GPUS Media Committee. De Lear attended the auspicious formalization of Asia Pacific Greens Network with 45 nations in attendance, held in Kyoto, Japan Feb '05.

Byron De Lear is also a member of the AFSC's Middle East Peace Education subcommittee; Physicians for Social Responsibility Nonproliferation and Disarmament Committee; International Forum for Literature and Culture Board Member (IFLAC); member group of United For Peace and Justice (UFPJ); Foreign Policy Consultant for Brit Olam; a member of the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP); North American Representative MIFKAD or People's Voice (Ayalon / Nusseibeh Initiative) and is a visiting lecturer at California State University, Northridge.
