Candidate for
Board Member; Windsor Unified School District

I believe we need to expand the current education system to the highest standards possible, to create a system where teachers can nurture the children themselves as well as their minds. A system where multiple language options, for example the "languages" of art, music, dance, theater and journalism, are proffered, and not just the spoken languages. I believe school should be a stimulating, critical thinking environment where students are taught the whole truth about their community, their culture and their nation, both the wonders and the blemishes.

I value student-centered education, one that focuses on the personal achievement of individual students. I do not believe a test-centered curriculum will raise student achievement. A test-centered curriculum only serves the needs of the test givers. Students are not the sum of their test scores and it is wrong to think of them in that way. The purpose of testing is to help the teacher assess what the student has or has not learned. A test is not a means for reward or punishment, nor is a test score an indication of achievement. A test result is, rather, a measure of whether the student needs corrective help and an indicator for what kind of help the student needs. The one who must be held accountable for their achievement is the student - not the teacher, not the administrator and not the school. But students need the educational/remedial help they require to realize such achievement. Before they can be held accountable for their achievement, they need learn the tools to master the curriculum, not to earn a test grade. Every child has the right to realize the summit of their potential as a learned person, and it is our responsibility as parents and as adults to create an environment of learning and critical-thinking for them. The more support each student receives in pursuit of his or her education, from family, teachers and administrators and from the larger community, the more choices they will have in what they will productively bring back into the community as adults. Only by working together in a shared vision of student-centered learning will the reality of a diverse, thorough and successful school education be fully realized by every child.

Over the next ten years, many crucial decisions will be made concerning the kind of education to offer our children in a growing Windsor Unified School District. Our community is diverse, multi-cultural, economically broad, far-ranging in ideals and goals and multi-facetted. Sharing our common desires for a successful education system, we can continue to make it a reality. I want to continue the good work the school board has been doing for the Windsor community, and look to an even brighter future for all our children.

I care for children and their education. I want to protect them from harm, treat them fairly and help them achieve their dreams. It takes an investment of time and money by the community to give children the freedom and opportunity to fulfill their desires and grow into productive adults. It is my responsibility to serve and help shape that community through open honest communication. Trust makes cooperation possible.

Filosofía de mi Campaña Política

Yo creo que necesitamos expandir el sistema educative actual a las normas más altas posibles, para crear un sistema donde los maestros pueden educar a los niños. Un sistema donde múltiples opciones de lenguaje, por ejemplo los "lenguajes" de arte, música, baile, teatro y periodísmo, son preferidos, y no sólo los idiomas hablados. Yo creo que la escuela debe tener un ambiente estimulante donde se promueve el pensamiento crítico, donde se les enseña toda la verdad acerca de su comunidad, de su cultura, y de su país a los estudiantes, las maravillas y los defectos a la vez.

Propósito yo valorizo una educación que se enfoca en los estudiantes, cuyo es el logro personal del estudiante. No creo que un plan de estudio que se enfoca en los examenes para valorar el éxito de los estudiantes. Un plan de estudio que se enfoca en los examenes sólo sirve las necesidades de los que dan el examen. Los estudiantes no son la suma de sus examenes y no está bien que pensemos en ellos de esa manera. El propósito del examen es de ayudar al maestro evaluar lo que ha aprendido o no ha aprendido el estudiante. Un examen no es un medio para recompensas o castigar, ni tampoco es una calificación en un examen una indicación de éxito. Un resultado de un examen es, más bien, una medida de si el estudiante necesita ayuda correctiva y un indicador para el tipo de ayuda que necesita el estudiante. El que debe ser responsable por su éxito es el estudiante + no el maestro, no el administrador y no la escuela. Pero los estudiantes necesitan la ayuda educativa que requieren para realizar tal éxito. Antes de que puedan ser responsables por su éxito necesitan aprender las cosas que les van a ayudar a dominar el plan de estudio, no para obtener una nota en un examen. Cada niño tiene el derecho de realizar la cima de su potncial como adultos crear un ambiente de aprendizaje y de pensamiento crítico para ellos. Entre más apoyo recibe cada estudiante en persecución de su educación, de familia, maestros y administradores y de la comunidad, más opciones tendran en lo que productivamente regresarán a la comunidad como adultos. Solamente a través de trabajar juntos en una visión compartida de aprendizaje enfocado en el estudiante lograremos la realidad de una diversa, completa y éxitosa educación escolar para cada niño.

Durante los próximos diez años, varias decisiones cruciales serán tomadas sobre el tipo de educación que debemos ofrecer hijos en un creciente Distrito Escolar Unificado de Windsor. Nuestra comunidad es diversa, multi-cultural, economicamente extensa, con varios ideales y metas. Compartiendo nuestros deseos comunes para unsistema edicativo éxitoso, podremos hacerlo realidad. Yo quiero continuar el buen trabajo que ha hecho la mesa directiva para la comunidad de Windsor, y mirar a un futuro aun más brillante para todos nuestros hijos.

Me importan los niños y su educación. Quiero protegerlos tratarlos justamente y ayudarles a lograr sus sueños. Toma una inversión de tiempo y dinero de la comunidad para darles la libertad y la oportunidad a los niños para satisfacer sus deseos y crecer adultos productivos. Es mi responsabilidad servir, ayudar a formar esa comunidad a través de una comunicación abierta y honesta. Confianza hace la cooperación posible.
