As a parent, legal guardian/caregiver to 8-year-old twin girls, and as a school volunteer,(inside and outside of the classroom)for many years, I embrace full parent/community participation in the local schools. My experience is that we do not always have a voice in the choice of programs that are developed and designed, and ultimtely used for our children within our school district. I believe that the parents, (who are the first teachers) and in some cases, committed groups of the community-at-large who have vested interests and may desire to volunteer or offer vital services, should be fully informed, and have access to information relating to aspects of governing our schools in order to work together more harmoniously, and in order to be able to make more precise decisions regarding the education of our children. As Community Liaison for over two years, with ASKACADEMY, a (NON-PROFIT SUBSIDIARY OF ALI INTERNATIONAL)I continue to advocate and offer direct links to programs and services that are representative of the needs of the youth, and their families in the community. As liaisons, and consultants, we seek to match-up enrichment, economic, entertainment, and educational programs and/or services. These services are either provided by ASKACADEMY, to schools, businesses, and other organizations- (public or private sector), or we will assist in referrals. I have also encouraged, and applaud, our local administrators in utilizing the school site council as another viable program to further promote school improvement in our district here in Daly City. I have prior experience as a member of two site councils in the San Francisco Unified School District 2004/05, where I am now currently working as a noon-time yard staff at San Francisco Community School, along with my other professional and personal experiences. I am currently serving as Vice President of the Bayshore Residents Association, as well as Member of the Bayshore Community Advisory Council. I am experienced working with the disabled children, as well as adults, and as a Paratransit Driver for Laidlaw, in San Francisco, I was responsible for transporting a severely disabled and wheelchair bound 3rd grade student, to and from school, and other related therapy appointments--contracted through Golden Gate Regional. More recently, I was employed as Receptionist by the Janet Pomeroy Center for the Handicapped in San Francisco last year, in 2005. |
