FIRE AND SAFETY IN CARLSBADBy Claude A. "Bud" LewisCandidate for Mayor; City of Carlsbad | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Fire and safety have always had high priority in Carlsbad, with wonderful results. The city election should not be used by the fire union for salary negotiations. Our fire fighters make within $200 of the highest paid fire fighters in the county. Their average annual pay is $97,000, well above the city average. The City Council has always given fire fighters every piece of equipment and facility the chief has requested because fire fighting is a high priority. When the union sits down to negotiate new salaries next year with the city, they would like to have a council person in their pocket. The union has decided to play a large role in this election to elect one person. I believe that City Council members must maintain objectivity in the negotiations, and have not sought the endorsement of the fire union. |
