President / Hospital Administrator. Functioned as the chief executive officer of a community teaching hospital and three subsidiary companies. The following are some of the noteworthy accomplishments and experiences in this position. 1980-1987

Increased Medicare Reimbursement by 35%. Through a combination of efforts and over 18 months was successful in getting HCFA to increase rates to our facility by 35%.

Set up Complete Manual of Hospital Operational Policies. Developed an entire hospital-wide policy manual covering all aspects of operation.

Developed Successful Program in Healthcare "Guerrilla" Marketing. Effectively marketed and competed against much larger, better known and well-entrenched competitors through effective program of customer relations, quality service and guerrilla marketing strategies. Presented techniques at an annual meeting of the National Association for Healthcare Marketing Executives.

Established Chemical Dependency Center. Provided the leadership andserved as Board Chair of an exclusive, free-standing chemical dependency center.

Provided Regional Hospital Leadership to Consortium of Hospitals in Region. Developed a hospital consortium (Regional Lakes Health Consortium, Northern MI) to cooperate and coordinate inter-hospital strengths in order to increase the collective ability of each organization to serve it's market and compete effectively against larger competing hospitals.

Established the First Sleep Disorder Center in Region. Developed a regional Sleep Disorder Clinic to serve Northwestern MI.

Re-organized Hospital to Increase Revenue Streams and Improve Patient Care. Reorganized a single community hospital into a non profit holding company with one for profit venture capital subsidiary and three non profit subsidiaries: a medical property management company, a healthcare venture capital company, a healthcare foundation.

Developed the first ACLS Services Education Program in Region. Spearheaded the first advanced cardiac life support ambulance system and certified ACLS education program in northwestern MI.

Successful in Dealing with Organized Labor. Effectively defeated multiple attempts by the United Steel Workers International to organize the non-organized employees of the organization. Successful in decertifying one professional union in Michigan. Implemented programs to resolve and prevent future interest in bargaining units.

Appointed Representative for Regulatory Change. Also served on a State Department of Public Health Task Force representing the Michigan Hospital Association regarding the development of Certificate of Need Criteria for rehabilitation facilities. 1986

MEDICARE LEGISLATION

Developed for U.S. Congressional staff the case and language for the addition of an amendment to the Medicare statutes to add another classification of hospitals to receive more equitable reimbursement under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1986. 1984-1986
