KATHLEEN COATES HEDBERG Professional Civil Engineer/Board President

As your candidate for Director of Helix Water District Division 4, I am committed to use my experience and knowledge to ensure that the District provides a safe and dependable supply of water at an affordable price.

I am the third generation involved in the water industry. I have lived in San Diego County for over 25 years and have been living in the Mt. Helix area for six years with my family.

My ongoing regular attendance at the Helix Water Board Meetings has given me the insight on the current water system issues and dynamics. I am dedicated in providing my time and expertise to this extremely important community need.

EXPERIENCE: 1) Currently President of Aqualink Water Systems (http://www.Aqualink.org), a non-profit organization that provides technical assistance to communities on drinking water and waste water systems in Baja California Mexico. I have been President of Aqualink for 5 years and member for over 15 years. 2) Project Manager for 2004/05 United States Environmental Protection Agency grant on The Binational Collaboration for Improved Water Systems in the Indigenous Communities of Baja California Mexico. 3) Chairperson of the California State Cross-Connection Control Committee and assisted in developing regulations that addressed alternative sources of water (recycled and gray water) to ensure that the drinking water supply is safe and protected. 4) Nine years of experience with the State of California, Department of Health Services, Drinking Water Program inspecting and regulating water systems in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial Counties.

EDUCATION: 1) Master's of Public Health in Environmental Health from San Diego State University 2) Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona. 3) California Registered Professional Civil Engineer 4) California Certified Grade 4 Water Treatment Operator. 5) American Water Works Association Cross-Connection Specialist. 6) American Water Works Association Member for over 15 years.
