Creative Problem Solving ApproachBy Al TervalonCandidate for Council Member; City of Morgan Hill | |

Collaboration, Involvement, and Creativity are the keystones of how I workTo the residents of Morgan Hill, I've always believed that the best way to solve problems was to begin by realizing that I don't yet know the answer. That approach keeps me open to new ideas that might otherwise get filtered out. I prefer to keep a very open mind, process ideas and information, assess the various needs and options, and work to a consensus solution. This approach does not mean that I don't have specific ideas, but it does ensure that many more options are considered before I implement a solution. This approach is collaborative and comprehensive, and frequently results in solutions that were never part of the initial considerations. In the Morgan Hill Times editorial section of 27-Oct-06, it was suggested that my use of this "identify ways" approach to my campaign for City Council was not sufficiently informative for voters to act upon. I disagree. I'm extremely hopeful that you, the people, recognize that none of our issues has a simple solution, and none of them can be solved independently. Candidates with specific objectives will invariably have to reach some form of compromise to implement solutions. The only difference in my approach is the honesty with which I present my position - not beholden to a specific solution, and constantly looking for better answers. You've had years to see how candidates with fixed ideas make things happen. I'd like to bring a different, more open and creative approach to our City Council. I hope you agree, and that you plan to vote next Tuesday. |
