Reforming Our High SchoolsBy George St ClairCandidate for Board Member; Campbell Union High School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Reforming schools in a climate of public scepticism, and a lack of focus in educational policymaking, remain major obstacles to meaningful school reform. The public has increasingly higher expectations for its schools. The challenge is for better communication--with parents and non-parents alike, so that they come to better appreciate the ever-increasing challenges, as well as the successes, in our schools. The CUHSD has increased its commitment to communicating with parents in a variety of ways, and has increased efforts at involving parents in their local high school. The level of parental involvement is on the rise at all of our schools and word is spreading that we offer good value to our students. Our schools are getting the results the public expects. Is there room for improvement? Certainly--and each year, our educators do a better job. The District must re-double its efforts in the direction of improving communication channels and continue its pursuit of meaningful reform--rather than taking a scattershot approach or blindly adopting the latest educational fad. |
