Art Maurice grew up in a small town in Barre, Vermont where everybody knew each other. Neighbors routinely helped each other whether it was painting a house, building a backyard swing set or sharing a glass of iced tea on the front porch. Neighborhoods were close-knit and very safe; my parent hardly ever locked the doors.

Art then went on to Kansas State University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering. The University itself was larger than his hometown, not to mention Manhattan, KS where the university resided. Even this town was much bigger than Barre, Vermont the residents were still very close-knit and people helped each other. This made crime low and the schools strong.

Upon graduation Art moved to San Jose where he worked as an engineer for nine years and now as a technical recruiter. He bought a house in the Cory neighborhood because the neighbors were very friendly and it felt close-knit. Right away he made many friends and became the president of the Cory Neighborhood Association, which in 2004 received the "Good Neighbor" award.

Art is currently the Treasurer of the Cory Neighborhood Association but also does work outside the neighborhood. He is a member of two toastmaster clubs (Toastmeisters and KT Talkers) and is currently the G3 Area Governor. He also teaches gymnastics to kids and adults at Airborne Gymnastics in Santa Clara.

Art works as a Technical Recruiter at Infinera (http://www.infinera.com) helping people with their careers and maintaining high technology in Silicon Valley. Art is also environmentally conscience. He has installed solar panels at his house and commutes on an electric scooter or if he doesn't have an after work appointment, he rides his bicycle.

Before buying the electric vehicle Art attended several meetings of the San Jose Electric Auto Association (http://geocities.com/sjeaa) and the Silicon Valley Electric Auto Association (http://eaasv.org), both of which are under the National Electric Auto Association (http://www.eaaev.org). If you want to learn more about electric vehicles this is where the experts reside. This is how I met Felix Kramer who founded CalCars.org. This organization (http://www.calcars.org) has designed a plug-in hybrid that gets over 100 mpg.
