Full Biography for Avrum "Avie" Katz

Avie Katz is the President of the Fremont Union High School District Board of Education and has served on the board since 1998. Avie recently retired from the Santa Clara County Office of Education. He worked as a teacher at the junior high and high school level for more than 30 years. One of the highlights of Avie's career in education was when he developed a program for disadvantaged youth which allowed students to take long distance bicycle trips throughout Silicon Valley. Avie is a long-time resident of Cupertino. He and his wife, Cathy (Teacher of the Year at Monta Vista High School in 2000), are the parents of two Monta Vista graduates. In his spare time, Avie enjoys biking, spending time with his family, listening to jazz, traveling, and fixing cars. Avie was recently featured on the radio program "Weekend Edition" on NPR, where he was selected to solve a series of puzzles on-air with Will Shortz of the New York Times. Avie belongs to the following organizations: -Organization of Special Needs Families -National School Boards Association -Asian American Parents Association -Los Padres |
