Education, qualifications, and goals.Statement of SPENCER HINKLE Candidate for School Board Member Trustee Area #3 Santa Clara Unified School District Occupation: Retired Educator Education and Qualifications: Education: Masters Degree in European History, Masters Degree in Library Science, San Jose State University. Qualifications: served on District committees (curriculum, budget, facility planning), administered the computerization of Wilcox High School Library, participated in design of Mission City Center for the Performing Arts, organized teacher support in a successful campaign for Measure B Facility Bond, participated on committee responsible for passage of Measure J, $315 million Facility Bond. Experience: teacher (math, science, history), and librarian, Buchser High School and Wilcox High School, 35 years; technical director of high school theatrical productions; married to Carol, a retired SCUSD middle school math teacher; proud father of a grown son, Ian, and daughter, Tori. Having served as a teacher and library administrator, I will bring to the board an understanding of issues, needs, and difficulties facing district and teachers. I will also bring an understanding of the use of technology in the school and in the classroom. Not a single issue candidate, I will seek a broad consensus in formulating policy and resolving disputes. I will keep learning and achievement for all students as the primary focus. I am proud to be endorsed by former SCUSD Superintendent Don Callejon and his wife Clare, former Associate Superintendent Joe Kornder, SCUSD Board Past-President Emily Adorable, the United Teachers of Santa Clara (UTSC) the local CTA affiliate, and others. Goals I share with the District: Narrow student achievement gaps while raising the bar. Enhance financial stability. Attract, develop, and retain quality staff. Educate the whole learner academically, emotionally, socially, culturally and vocationally. Increase parental and community involvement and support.
