Why am I running for Mayor?By Jose "Joe" EstevesCandidate for Mayor; City of Milpitas | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My proven accomplishments, strong leadership, accountability, innovation, people respect, self-less service and overwhelming voter support demand my continued service as Milpitas' Mayor.I want to continue my strong leadership and significant accomplishments. I have led many advancements in our City. In traffic and transportation: Great Mall Light Rail Station Opening, 237/880 Interchange completion, 880/Dixon Landing Interchange completion, 880/237 Carpool Lane Opening, and Montague Expressway improvements. In new City projects, the new Library on Main Street is under construction, the interim Senior Center is completed, there is planned construction of new Senior Housing, a new County Medical Clinic is planned, and two Creek Trails, Berryessa and Coyote, have opened. From a business perspective, I initiated the new Economic Development Commission to enhance the economy and image of Milpitas, the Midtown Specific Plan is becoming a reality, we have a Proposed Midtown Transit Area Plan (future BART station), city-wide Wi-Fi is in final planning, and the Town Center is undergoing renovation and new construction. I am very proud that during the past 4 years, there has been an annual decrease in the Milpitas crime rate, the General Fund revenue has been $8.8M better than original estimate, and Milpitas has a AA financial rating + highest for any City in California. I understand the importance of education and I am very proud of his support for education. I led the City Council-School District committee, was instrumental in bringing college classes to Milpitas, and have been personally involved in mentor, reading, and school safety programs. Because of these efforts, we will have a new library and we now have increased hours of operation. As many of you know, the City Council has been divided in many important areas. Re-electing Mayor Jose Esteves will ensure that we are represented on the Council with our values, our interests, and our objectives. I do not have connections to developers or special interests and I will work for smart development in Milpitas that is in the best interest of the residents of our City. I strongly urge your support for Mayor Esteves. |
