Political Philosophy for Yvonne Cook
Candidate for |

|
As a parent of two and a grandparent of four, all my decisions have focused on improvement in student performance, good fiscal management, and a safe school environment. The past four years have been good. The district has met or exceeded state performance standards, district scores exceed county and state averages, 16 California Distinguished Schools since 1999, and one of the highest K-8 algebra and geometry completion rates in the county. The district has remained fiscally solvent during tough economic times, yet has maintained important programs such as extended day kindergarten for all schools (only one of two districts in the county), visual and performing arts, counseling and after-school sports at the intermediate schools, and class size reduction. Taxpayer monies, including bond and parcel tax, have been managed with integrity. The schools have remained safe for students and teachers through zero tolerance for drugs, weapons, and bullying; safety standards with safe school and emergency preparedness plans; and improved communications. During the next four years, I will continue my focus. Thank you for the privilege of being a member of the governing board since 1989. |
