The People Should Be Notified - Chemical Spraying in the Neighborhood a Problem

By Dan B. Secord

Candidate for County Board of Supervisors; County of Santa Barbara; Supervisorial District 2

This information is provided by the candidate
What we have here is a failure to communicate.
Inadequate notification of neighborhoods, when chemicals must be used to eradicate a public health issue, is about respect and takes away choice, which supports fear.

Success of notification could be the percentage of neighbors who know as a result of the notification.

Santa Barbara County possesses a notification system that could have been used to notify nearby residents of the proposed placement of Naled on trees.

Using a computer, a circle is drawn on the screen including the affected neighborhood, then a recorded message can be delivered to all the phones in the homes inside the circle. The County has the reverse 911 capability and has used it on at least two occasions.

They could have used it in this situation.
