I have a passion for Public Education!

My name is Orlando Hernandez. I have been a resident of Carpinteria for over 22 years. I graduated from Westmont College in 1981. I have served on the Board of Directors at the Boys & Girls Club. I have served on various hiring panels for the Carpinteria Unified School District over the past six years. I am currently a member of the District's Advisory Committee.

I would like to announce my candidacy for Trustee of the Carpinteria Unified School District in the November 7th election. I need your support in order to gain a seat on this important Board. Children are the future of not only our community, but, of society as we know it. As a School Board Trustee I believe, I can have a positive impact in assisting our talented and hardworking teachers. With your help, and, most importantly, your vote on November 7th, I'm confident we can win!

My general philosophy regarding education is that as a School Board Trustee, my role would be to provide the best available resources to our teachers in order to allow them to do what they do best -- teach! Our school District has experienced declining enrollment of approximately 600 students for the past seven years. With this decline in students also comes a decline in funding. Our teachers today have to do more with less. Financially, I will strive to assure continued fiscal responsibility at the District while keeping focus on what's best for the entire School District.
