Patrick Kennedy is a fourth generation Sacramentan. He attended local public schools through his graduation from California State University Sacramento.

After college, Patrick joined SMUD's Energy Efficiency and Eletric Transportation Departments, where he led efforts to develop clean air programs for ten years. While working at SMUD, Patrick attended law school at night, eventually being admitted to the California State Bar in 2003. He is currently in private practice.

Patrick and his wife Judy, an artist and teacher, have lived in the Hollywood Park neighborhood with their four daughters since 1991. Prior to moving to Hollywood Park, Patrick was active in the Oak Park neighborhood, where he led eforts to curb prostitution on Broadway and rid local parks of elicit drug activity.

In 2004, Mayor Joe Serna, Jr. appointed Patrick to the Sacramento City Planning Commission, where he proudly served the people of Sacramento for over ten years.

Additionally, Patrick has served on the Sacramento City Unified School District Bond Oversite Committee, The Oak Park Project Committee, the McClellan AFB Privatization and Reuse Plannong Team, and the Sacramento Regional Transit District Citizens' Advisory Committee on Transit Extension Alternatives. He has also served as the CFO and Vice President of The Health Project (a non profit organization delivering health care to the very por in Sacramento), President of the Oak Park Neighborhood Association and founding President of the Hollywood Park Neighborhood Association.
