Strong AdvocateBy Martin HarmonCandidate for Board Member; Sierra Joint Community College District; Area 6 | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Support Students, Community and Returning VeteransYears of business and government experience has equipped me to be a strong advocate for the people of Area 6 and for all of the people in the Sierra Community College District. This District covers over 3,200 square miles in size and encompasses four counties: Nevada, Placer, parts of El Dorado and Sacramento. There is 300 acre Rocklin Campus, a 115 acre Nevada County Campus in Grass Valley, a Campus Center in Truckee and a Campus Center in Roseville. Area 6 represents Nevada County. However, the election is District wide and therefore, all the voters in the District cast votes for the Area 6 Trustee. I will provide effective leadership and work closely with community leaders and businesses to develop partnerships for greater support of academic and vocational programs. I will work to ensure that training and academic study corresponds with job opportunities and with further studies at four year colleges and universities, which prepare our students for the ever-increasing demands of the 21st Century. A Sierra College Education can also be a life boat for many who strive to improve their lives and work situation. I fully support and will work to expand programs such as the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education, Student Success Program, Distance Learning courses, Training and Development and Internships and Work Study programs. I will support our returning Veterans and ensure that our policies assist their transition from the battlefield to the academic field. |
