Arguments For Measure K |
Measures "J" establishes trustee areas and Measure "K" provides
for the election of the area trustee by the residents of that trustee
area.
Area public schools are an essential and valuable part of our local communities. Individuals representing our public school system will be more effective when they are part of the community they represent and know that they were elected by the community they represent. The Sacramento City Unified School District has over 150,000 registered voters within its 67-square mile boundaries. This area is too large for candidates to reach all voters effectively. The cost associated with large, time-consuming campaigns tends to discourage good candidates from participating in the process. Measures "J" and "K" will provide a means for individuals familiar with area issues to consider running for school board positions. This proposal was presented by local neighborhood and commnity organizations and the Sacramento City Teachers Association for approval by the Sacramento County School Board. After the County School Board approved the proposal for presentation to the registered voters of the Sacramento City Unified School District, five of the seven Sacramento City Unified School Board members endorsed the proposal. Help expand community support for our local public school system by supporting the establishment of trustee areas for the Sacramento City Unified School District, and the election of those trustees by those residents within the given trustee area.
