My Political Philosophy: Responsibility and Accountability

Set the bar low and get low achievement; set the bar high and achievement will be high! My expectations for all students are to encourage them to do their very best and strive for excellence. I realize that all students are not Advance Placement Students, Honors Students, nor are they all GATE students. But all students should be encouraged to reach beyond their personal limitations to do their very best. The ability to stretch can make all the difference in a child's life. I believe in the students of Moreno Valley Unified School District. Our children are our NOW, not our future. NOW the habits, dreams, and expectations are taking root. If we nurture them properly, the future will be bright, successful and full of hope for them all! No child will be left behind.

As parents, we must be willing to extend ourselves to our children and local schools. We must develop a "Private School Mentality" for our "Public Schools"! Meaning we have to make the time to participate in the educational process for our own children. It is our, yes our, (I'm a parent too), responsibility to make sure our students are academically, intellectually, and socially ready to enter the wonderful world of public education. I feel it is further our duty as parents to ensure our children have an attitude of respect for authority and appreciate the education afforded to them. Parent education is key to making this happen! Making ourselves available to serve our school community is so very important. By doing this, we all will feel more connected to both our local schools and district, thus creating an even stronger desire to achieve greatness.

Administrators, Teachers, District Staff, and our School Board of Trustees I believe should be equally accountable to our students and their parents. We must endeavor to work as one unit, respecting the roles each party plays in the education and development of every student. I believe we should build a relationship with all students and parents. As MVUSD employees, we want to be "Parent Friendly"! Educators must commit to and fulfill their obligation to properly educate our students. If the district extends itself to parents, parents in turn will reciprocate. Students need to know that their best interest comes first. Parent information nights, school mixers, and open communication will help to build a stronger bond between administrators, teachers, parents, and students.

I know we have what it takes to be the greatest school district in Riverside, California, and our country! I believe we have a dynamic group of administrators, teachers, counselors, and support staff that are ready to extend themselves for our children. Further, I know Moreno Valley parents love their "little ones" and want the best for them. We all must commit to making sure our students become the best they can be, because they are the best!

This is what I believe and this is what I want to achieve. Public school education is and will always be the best way to go, if we all do our part to make it work. REMEMBER: Responsibility and Accountability! So on Tuesday, November 7th, 2006, VOTE JAMIE "JAI" WASHINGTON - CUBIT MVUSD Board of Trustees!
