Kristi Rutz-Robbins Candidate Statement

By Kristi A Rutz-Robbins

Candidate for Board Member; Temecula Valley Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
It is time for a change. I have three main objectives while serving on the school board. One, to make sure the board is putting children first. As a parent of children in this district I know how important it is for the board to treat each child as an individual. I will schedule regular site visits to talk with parents and teachers about what their children need. My second objective is to establish effective and respectful communication and a positive "tone from the top." My third objective is to promote art, music and physical education, especially at the elementary school level. There are wonderful programs run by volunteer parents and teachers at individual sites across the district that mediate the cuts art, music and P.E. programs experienced. For example, I am piloting a world folk art program at Tobin Elementary School. I train a team of volunteer art docents in an art project which they bring to the students in their child's class each month. The costs for this project are minimal. What we need now is a board that can expand these types of programs. It is time for the school board to reprioritize its time and money and support art, music and P.E., creating an atmosphere of well rounded academic excellence. We need change in this district and now is the time.
