Candidate for
Board Member, 4 Year; Brea Olinda Unified School District

After 26 years of service to the Brea Olinda Unified School District, I have decided that the knowledge and experience I have gained would lend itself to serving as a Member of the Board of Education.

I began working for Brea Olinda Unified School District as a substitute secretary at Mariposa School to give the building secretary an opportunity to take her vacation days throughout the year. It gave Mr. Bryden a sense of comfort to know that I was a phone call away to relieve either of his front office girls. One of them was out for a three quarters and I had the opportunity to be a long-term substitute. The Clerk Typist/ Attendance Clerk position became available and I was appointed to that position. That was a real joy in my life because I was able to work with 30+ teachers and 500+ students. So much happens at an elementary school and I enjoyed every minute of that experience.

One of our former Superintendents asked me to apply for the Secretary to the Board of Education position that was being vacated in the District Office. It was a difficult decision because I knew I would miss both the kids and the staff. I did.

However, I did have an opportunity to use more of my publication skills along with the unbelievable experience of working for the Board of Education. I learned so much from so many capable board members and consider myself to have an invaluable resource for the position.

I understand both the expectations and level of commitment required for serving as a Member of the Board of Education.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve the community of Brea in this capacity.
