Explains why residents should vote for Chris McCormack
Dear San Clemente Residents,

This is a pivotal election year for San Clemente residents and the future of our city. During the next two years, the city council will decide on major issues that have the potential to change the fabric of our city forever. Some of the issues include building limits: will the city allow more large developments in San Clemente and will the 500 house limit per year be renewed? Del Mar Street: will it remain a viable shopping center with increased competition from the current Marbelhead outlet mail and the North Beach development? The Toll road: will the San Clemente City Council continue to support the Toll Road. Rancho Mission Viejo development: Will San Clemente be involved in the planning of this development, which includes thousands of homes where TRW is located? These are just a few of the important issues facing S.C. residents when they go to the polls on November 7. With so much at stake, I want to tell residents where I stand on these issues.
In regards to the building limit, I will fight for an initiative that would end all large tract developments in town and renew the 500-house limit. In order to keep Del Mar viable, I will explore ways to provide small local retail, including restaurants, with economic incentives so they can equally compete with their corporate counterparts who will be moving into the new developments. I will support an anti toll road initiative that would prevent the city from supporting the road politically or economically. Furthermore, I will question San Clemente City Council member Jim Dahl's paid participation on the TCA board of directors; this clearly is a conflict of interest and an attack on democracy. What kind of democracy do you have when city officials are paid by private corporations to vote in favor of their cooperate interests? The Rancho Mission Viejo development is very disturbing and if elected I will do all I can to prevent their plans for building homes on the TRW site.
During this campaign, some candidates have argued that our city needs to follow the path we are currently taking, however, I disagree. As a person that was born and raised in San Clemente, I want to tell San Clemente residents, that I' am truly worried about the direction our city is taking. Our town is growing at a rapid rate and if we don't take a stand now it won't be long before San Clemente loses its uniqueness and becomes just another congested Orange County town. When I look towards the future of our city, I must admit it is bit foggy. However, if you look hard enough you can see a bright light that shines through the fog, a light that represents the San Clemente that we have all grown to love. You can see a small village by the sea where neighbors are friends and the beaches are clean. If you too look into the fog and see that same light, then vote for Chris McCormack on November 7 because I will fight with all I have to make that light shine bright for our children and grandchildren.

Sincerely,
Chris McComack
