Tish Leon Biographical Sketch

With her extensive experience in public service and hands-on work in the community, Tish believes she can now do the most good for the people of Santa Ana as a member of City Council. She declared her candidacy in November 2005 and is steadily working to get her message out + that Santa Ana has a bright future with good city management, strong business leadership and a determination to put families first.

Since 1996, Tish Leon has served as the Executive Assistant and Human Resources and Facilities Manager of Latino Health Access, a nonprofit center for health promotion and disease prevention in Santa Ana.

Tish was appointed as a Commissioner to serve on the Santa Ana Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission from 2000-2004.

Tish's community outreach includes serving as President and Board Member of the Town Square Condominiums Home Owners Association since 1999. She is also one of the original Board Members and Secretary of the Grain Project/Santa Ana Farmer's Market and a Board Member of the Feedback Foundation, which offers Santa Ana senior citizens supportive services. In addition, Tish is a member of the Santa Ana Resource Network Steering Committee, MANA of Orange County, a National Latina Organization, LULAC of Anaheim, and California's Elected Women Association Election & Research (CEWAER).

Born in San Diego, Tish is a first generation American and the third of six children born to Agustin & Nelly Leon, who came to the States in the mid-1940s and still reside in San Diego. After graduating from Crawford High School, Tish attended San Diego City College, where she received an AA in Bilingual Education.

Tish moved to Orange County in 1981 when her job transferred her to work at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. She was later transferred to Pearl Harbor Naval Base from 1985 until 1988. In 1988, she returned to Orange County, where she has lived ever since, moving to Santa Ana in 1999.

When not working, Tish enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews at the Santa Ana Zoo.

Tish believes that, through her community service, she can be a powerful force for positive change. She has shown what she can do in helping provide Santa Ana with its first Farmer's Market. She also reaches out to women and seniors. And she actually does meaningful work on the job at Latino Health Access, where she helps provide for health education and community awareness.

Tish Leon is a dedicated, concerned leader with a vision of Santa Ana's potential, what its people can accomplish working together for the common good. She will bring her vision and her experience to City Council in November and Santa Ana will become a better, more livable place because of her.
