Campaign Statement

The $58 million modernization project to renovate our schools was successfully implemented with all construction finished on time and within budget. All four schools stand beautifully remodeled with state-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, performing arts and athletic facilities. We have budgeted a prudent long-term reserve fund as a Facility Repair and Replacement Program to ensure our newly renovated schools remain in excellent condition.

I am especially proud of helping to create a warm, collaborative working relationship between the administration and the teachers and staff of our district. We have consistently approved salary raises that are competitive with the best in the state, allowing us to attract and keep the most excellent educators available. The teachers feel supported and have time built into their schedules for professional learning and student planning. I am also a strong advocate for parents and have helped the district maintain a close working relationship with volunteer groups such as PTA, SchoolPower, Endowment Fund, and Booster groups. In this way, community members, parents, teachers and students all work together to create the best education possible for our youth.

I dedicated myself to my first term on the School Board as a full time job. I worked and studied hard, attended countless meetings, and grew to fully understand and love the school district. Now I wish to continue my dedication as a seasoned veteran in an organization which is in major transition. We have just hired a new Assistant Superintendent and will hire a replacement for our current Superintendent this year. At this crucial time of change in the top ranks, it is imperative to have a School Board member with the knowledge and history to continue our success and move us forward. I am the only incumbent running out of the three seats available. Please pledge your vote for proven leadership and re-elect Betsy Jenkins to the Laguna Beach School Board.
